Diabetic Diets and Their Effect for This Incurable Disease
June 13th, 2009 | Author: adminDiabetes is often mistakenly considered as a not very serious disease. This mistake can cost a person its life. For those who don’t know we should say that diabetes is a serious incurable disease which could be even fatal if treated improperly.
Diets especially diabetic diets are referred to treatment methods. In spite of the fact that this disease is incurable, treatment is definitely necessary for every type of diabetes. In many cases following a diet on a regular basis or from time to time is enough to live a long and a happy life even being a diabetic. Some people just do not believe that diets can be really helpful and have positive and noticeable effects. Well, they certainly can. What we need is to go a bit deeper in this matter. It won’t be difficult.
When we say incurable disease we mainly talk about people who suffer from type 1 diabetes and are consequently insulin-dependent. Modern medicine and science have not found medications from it. Of course there are known cases of pancreas transplantation. But they are random, and far not everyone can afford having such operation because it’s rather expensive, dangerous as any other organ transplantation, and it’s extremely hard to find donors for it. Thus the necessity and importance of diabetic diets becomes obvious, and we get closer to our topic.
So, what effects do we get out of diabetic diets? There are a number of them. Some of them are obvious while others are ‘hidden’. Let’s look at them a bit closer.
First of all they have direct influence of the physical state of diabetics. The main effects are aimed at two sides of health: glucose (blood sugar) level lowering/control and weight lowering/control. High glucose level combined with overweight can cause serious heart problems and even death. Diabetic diets are followed by both insulin-dependent (type 1) and non-insulin-dependent (type 2) people. The first ones do this for weight loss purpose and to maintain general well-being. While the latter ones do it to avoid transformation of type 2 into type 1 diabetes.
There is another side of diabetic diets’ effect which as important as the one we talked above. What is meant here is mental health of diabetics and their psychological state. Any disease even the one that can’t be seen naked eye can make people feel handicapped. And here diabetic diets come for help. The thing is that commonly dietitians offer a very good exchange diet plans that allow every person choose those foods and products that are tasty and are commonly included in everyday dietary. On the third hand it may seam not so important, but it is. It means a lot when a person who suffers from diabetes feels natural just like the rest of people around. This feeling has also positive influence at physical health.
Positive effects of diabetic diets have been long valued by diabetics and by people who don’t have this disease. That is why they are widely used by people of all ages all around the world.
