BC Resident Care Aide Inc. is an Accredited Private School located
in central Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada that specializes in the
training of Care Aides.
This Resident Care Aide program, (WWW.residentcareaide.com)
was formerly a partnership with the Langara College Continuing Studies
department and has been offered since 2002 graduating over 350
graduates of who have gained employment throughout BC and beyond.
The
Resident Care Aide program is offered at 740 – 1333 West Broadway with
practicum's at a variety of sites in the Vancouver and Lower Mainland
areas. We offer a unique program focusing on the adult learner and have
found, along with the hands on clinical focus, it accommodates many
different types of students.
This
intensive 17-week Resident Care Aide (RCA) certificate program includes
classroom, home study and practicum hours. A new class starts every
four weeks. As well as the RCA Certificate, students receive CPR/First
Aid, Food Safe and WHMIS certification. Additional Certificates offered
include Diabetes and Foot Care with several more soon to become
introduced.
Resident Care Aide graduates work in both private and
publicly funded facilities and agencies, as well as a variety of
community settings. These may include extended care, intermediate care,
assisted living, acute care hospitals, home support for children,
adults and families, rehabilitation facilities, and group homes. Care
may include respite & palliative care.
RCAs work as part of a
team within a designated care plan, under the supervision and
delegation of a health care professional such as a Registered Nurse,
Registered Psychiatric Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse. They may also
be hired, under private contract, as a caregiver by an individual
client.
RCA roles include assisting clients with personal care
such as bathing and dressing; performing selected health care
procedures, such as taking vital signs, and providing oxygen therapy,
ostomy care; and observing and reporting changes in behavioural and
physical condition. The role may also include assisting with selected
household duties, such as meal preparation and light housework, in
addition to personal care. The boundaries of the role are outlined in
the job description provided by the agency, and are also limited by the
graduate's training program.
